Slight increase for 2018 Order of the Arrow dues

As you may have noticed the dues for 2018 have increased by $5. This is because the National OA dues our Lodge pays went up $2. Of the $15 dues, $5 goes directly to the National Order of the Arrow. Below is an excerpt from Matt Dukeman, the National Director of the Order of the Arrow that explains the dues increase. If you have any questions on this please let me know.

Eric Militello, Ho De No Sau Nee Lodge Adviser

“During its meeting on December 28, 2016, the National Order of the Arrow Committee authorized a dues increase to $5.00 per member.

The last national dues increase to $3.00 per member took effect January 1, 2006. At that time the National Committee projected that this increase would be sufficient to fund operations without additional increases for five years. By demonstrating excellent financial stewardship, we have outlasted that projection and have maintained dues at the current level for twelve years.

It has long been the policy of the Order of the Arrow that dues collected from its members be used only to run the operations of the national organization. In fact more than 80% of our annual operating budget, mainly driven by dues income, covers the salary and benefits of our two professionals and two support staff, communications with our membership (including our website, enews and National Bulletin), travel for professionals and six national officers and program recognition for our lodges.

Dues income is not used to fund any national events such as NOAC. All of the Order’s signature events such as matching service grants to councils, Get Kids to Camp Program, high adventure programs, National Leadership Seminars, Developing Youth Leadership Conferences, Jamboree programs, museum activities, and scholarships, are funded from interest from our endowment and are not passed on as an expense to our membership. As we continue to grow the Order’s endowment, the national committee hopes to avoid future dues increases.”
